Join Toronto Public Library (TPL), Student Leadership & Youth Empowerment (SLYE), and YouthReach for our virtual Secure the Bag Series finale on Tuesday, December 1st from 4PM-6PM! Jamie-Lee is the owner of Juvae Jewels, a jewelry company that defines its style by embracing simplicity and minimalism. She designs beautiful, simple, and contemporary 18k gold-plated essential pieces for the modern woman and man.

 

Lesley-Ann Parris, Founder of Empathy + Me, and The Empathy Crate (@theempathycrate)

Leslie-Ann is a Durham-based owner of Empathy + Me, a social enterprise focused on helping people heal from trauma through storytelling, community events and wellness products. Leslie is a lifestyle blogger, podcaster, and creator of handmade holistic wellness essentials.

 

Jovie Galit, Founder of Pinay Collection (@pinaycollection)

Jovie is the creator of Pinya Letters, a Modern Calligraphy business based in Toronto. Her work with the Filipino language has been focused on reclaiming Tagalog pejorative words through the art of hand lettering. She also founded Pinay Collection—a clothing line that celebrates and reclaims Filipina/x heritage and identity.

KISS IT BETTER?: WELLBEING VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS

This interactive and discussion-based online workshop series offers youth (15-24) from the GTA the opportunity to better understand what care can look like and how to be well in a time like this. In partnership with Planned Parenthood Toronto (PPT), Black Coalition for Aids Prevention (Black CAP), and Supporting Our Youth (SOY), we are offering 4 new workshops in the coming weeks.

We'll explore what closeness and connection look, taste, smell, sound and feel like in a time of a global pandemic.

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 25TH, 2020 (4pm-5pm)

This workshop will explore themes of care and the practices that brings us closer to ourselves, relationships and communities. Join us as we map and imagine ways to build more self and community care into our lives.

Workshop 4: Communicating Boundaries as a Caring Act

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 16TH, 2020 (4pm-5pm)

This workshop will talk about the joys and pains of communicating our boundaries and how we can approach this as an act of caring for self and others.

SLYE ONLINE LEADERSHIP TRAININGS

A FREE online training for youth aged 13-18, to build leadership skills and an opportunity to put those skills into practice!

This training will build your unique leadership capacity and introduce you to the leadership opportunities that SLYE has to offer. Upon completion of this training, participants will receive a gift card and volunteer hours.

This training will happen from 4PM-6PM on the platform Crowdcast, and we will send each attendee the link to join the training the day before.

SLYE YOUTH COUNCIL

SLYE Youth Council consists of youth leaders (aged 13-18) from the Steeles-L'Amoreaux area in Scarborough who organize, lead, and support community initiatives!

 

During our virtual meetings, youth leaders volunteer hours and work experience. Youth also have the opportunity to build friendships with others in their community.
